Each Squads practice is 45 minutes long. There are a maximum of 12 students in the program, split between 2 separate lanes.
We generally require Squads swimmers to have learned Freestyle & Backstroke in our regular swim classes before moving into the Squads program. In place of this, an instructor recommendation also qualifies a swimmer to join the program.
Each student in Squads generally already knows at least the first two strokes. Instead of swimming working primarily on technique, as they would in a class, participants in the Squads program are also focusing heavily on building distance through the use of drills and other swim-team-like activities.
In the Squads program, we divide students into lanes based on their ability level. Generally, students who don't know all 4 strokes will be in a lane together, while students who have already mastered Breaststroke and Butterfly will be paired together so that they can move into more advanced skills.
